Robert J. Britz graduated from the University of Illinois in 1974 with a B. A. degree in Liberal Arts and Sciences. Before college, Mr. Britz served three years with the U.S. Marine Corps, including a tour of duty in Vietnam as platoon commander. In 1978 he received his law degree from Northern Illinois University and began working with John L. Nickels that same year. When Mr. Nickels left the practice to become an Illinois circuit court judge in 1982, and later an Illinois Supreme Court judge, Mr. Britz established his own practice in Elburn.

Mr. Britz engages in the general practice of law with an emphasis in municipal and local government law, as well as real estate, estate planning, probate, and business matters. He is a member and current president of the Kane County Bar Association, a member of the Illinois Bar Association, and a member of the American Bar Association. Mr. Britz is also a member and past officer of the Elburn Lions Club and the Elburn American Legion, and is the past president of the Elburn Chamber of Commerce. He is a former member of the Kaneland School District Board of Education and a former member of the Region Two Area Agency on Aging Advisory Council. He is also a member of the legislation committee of the Illinois Municipal League and a member of the Local Government Law Section Council of the Illinois State Bar Association.

Mr. Britz has authored a number of articles for the Elburn Herald on matters of general legal interest. He has lectured before the Northern Illinois Alliance of Fire Protection Districts, the Illinois Association of Fire Protection Districts, and the Kane County Bar Association. He has also taught real estate law and business law at Waubonsee Community College in Sugar Grove, Illinois. He has received an "AV" Peer Review Rating from Lexis-Nexis Martindale-Hubbell, publishers of a nationwide directory of attorneys. An "AV" rating is the highest rating an attorney can achieve.
