Brian O'Connor graduated in June 1975 with a Bachelor of Science degree from Loyola University of Chicago, after which he entered service with the U.S. Army as a commissioned officer. Mr. O'Connor retired from the Army in the rank of Lieutenant Colonel after completing over twenty-one years of continuous service, during which time he fulfilled the requirements of the U.S. Army's Command and General Staff Officers Course, as well earning a Master of Science degree from the University of Southern California.

Following his retirement, Mr. O'Connor was employed in various positions in the private sector, both in the United States and overseas, before entering law school. Mr. O'Connor received his Juris Doctor degree from Northern Illinois University in 2004, where he served as an editor for the Law Review and was awarded the "Outstanding Contribution to the College of Law Community" award. Mr. O'Connor has served as a law clerk with Ottosen Britz Kelly Cooper & Gilbert, Ltd. since January 2003, and interned with the Office of the United States Attorney for the Northern District of Illinois.

Mr. O'Connor has been admitted to the Illinois bar, as well as the bar for the United States District Court for the Northern District of Illinois. He belongs to a variety of professional legal associations, including the American Bar Association, the Illinois State Bar Association, the DuPage County Bar Association, and the Chicago Bar Association. Additionally, Mr. O'Connor is a life member of the Association of the United States Army, the American Legion, the Veterans of Foreign Wars, and the Military Officers Association of America.
